To quote the hirer: The van was in perfect condition everything worked as it should - it doesn't look like a typical rental.
We decided to rent the camper trailer out as on average, 46 week of the year it just stand under the carport. So why not share the use of the trailer and get a little in return for the investment. So when we saw Private Caravan Hire at the Sydney Caravan and Camping Show this year we realised there must be a market for it too, and the enthusiasm of the Private Caravan Hire team plus the professional look of the website, and excellent support was key to signing up with Private Caravan Hire for the marketing of our trailer.
We just had our first rental and the hirer was very happy with the trailer and is likely going to be a return customer from what he said. For them it was perfect and made a change form tents, in the wet weather it far more comfortable and dry inside. It also provided excellent value for money, they were really impressed.
Owner John Macnamara - Brisbane - September 2008
I enjoy caravanning but can't do it 52 weeks a year. When I realised there was an opportunity to hire out my caravan for a portion of the year that protected me and my asset, as well as the hire party, I listed my carvavan .
I had seven responses in two weeks , including two firm bookings and tentatives up to July next year. The caravan will be towed to Cairns and back over three weeks and then heads down south immediately after.
The fellow taking his family to Cairns is very excited about the trip, and would struggle to accommodate two adults and two children in beautifully appointed, fully self contained accommodation for a total of $1500 any other way.

We have had our van listed for quite some time on the Private Caravan Hire and have had at least 14 or 15 enquiries. Out of those enquiries we've had one hire so far and have a deposit for another hire. We very nearly had a hire about 5 weeks ago but due to unforeseen family issues (hirer's family) , the hire was cancelled. We also have a couple of 'maybe' hires in the pipeline and time will tell.
From the very beginning of my involvement in PCH I found that I had the full support of Pam. She has always been just a phone call away. She is very committed to PCH and to helping us every step of the way. She is very reliable and always gets back to us asap and is only too willing to spend as much time as it takes to explain the hire agreement or anything else related to the enterprise. We have had some long chats and I now feel like I've known Pam for years.
Our first hire couple arrived to pick up the van at about 10am one Saturday morning and we spent approx an hour or so going over the workings of the van both inside and outside. I handled the inside explanations and Steve, my hubbie, handled the hitching/ towing details and the awning set up. There were lots of chuckles over the operation and possible scenarios involving the toilet and it's emptying--lots of laughs. We found that the couple hiring our van were just so friendly and we felt excited for them and wanted to make their trip a success. We felt very comfortable with them towing our van. They made the comment to us that we must be very brave to trust our caravan to strangers. It was quite an interesting comment because by the time a group arrives to actually tow the van, I think you feel like you know them pretty well and if you haven't felt comfortable with them, then somewhere along the hire process you most probably will have pulled the pin on the hire. We have had enquiries from people who obviously aren't set up to tow such a big van and who haven't any concept of what's involved with towing. Usually once they've digested the useful towing information that's on the PCH site then they realise that they need to reconsider the hire. We sometimes offer to tow the van to their destination (at a cost).
Our first hire couple returned the van a week later and they said that they'd had a lovely time. We spent quite a bit of time over morning tea discussing their adventure and swapping tales of caravan life. We felt like we'd made a new set of friends and that we had made a positive contribution to their holiday fun. It was definitely a good feeling to share their enthusiasm for caravan life. They were keen to repeat the experience next year. They thanked us for the way we set up the van and the information that they were given. The van was absolutely spotlessly clean inside and outside prior to the hire and it was returned in the same condition inside. Of course a caravan that's been towed will have the usual road dirt on it on the outside and we didn't expect it to be returned clean on the outside. You have to have the right facilities to do that. I had made sure that some little things were in the van before the hire just to make it more pleasant for our hirers. For example I put tissues, toilet paper, dishwashing liquid, fly spray, soap on tap, all purpose cleaner, cleaning sponge etc as well as the general linen, coat hangers, cutlery, plates , pots and pans etc etc that were in my list of van inclusions. The consumables that were in the van were to get the hirers started and certainly didn't cost much to provide. They said that it made the hire just so much easier to have those items there. I also had typed up a list of helpful hints and also things to do on arrival and prior to leaving a powered and unpowered site. I typed up instructions for the appliances as well. We leave a box of manufacturers operating instructions in the van just in case a hirer has any extra difficulties. We left them our phone numbers if all else failed.
I do think that these little extras, that show thought and consideration for hirers and their needs, are what sets the PCH enterprise way above other caravan hire companies. It must be very difficult to hire a van if it's totally empty. We now look forward to more caravan hires. It certainly is a good feeling to know that you have helped facilitate a caravan holiday for someone who otherwise may not have had the opportunity. That holiday feeling can be quite contagious!!
